Today was the Anniversary Inn's open house. Jeff and I went because they had cookies and cider. And we wanted to poke our noses in each room. It was really fun. They gave us a map and sent us out. We marked the map with notes so we knew which ones we'd be interested in staying in.
They let everyone who attended book a room over the next 12 months for $150. We picked our favorite upper-tier room, Rich's Drive-In, for our anniversary next year. Since we go each year, we thought getting a $300 room for $150 was pretty sweet. It was a room we'd otherwise never stay in.
It probably seems weird to some people that we do the same thing each year, but we really enjoy getting out of the house and not having to drive very far if it's poor weather (which it often is for our anni). We like to take snacks (and we usually get their date night pack - movies, soda, candy and popcorn) and play games, watch television, and just really have fun together.
This year we're staying in the Arctic Room. It sounds really chilly to me whenever I think about it. I'm so excited! The Anniversary Inn is one of the things I'll miss about Logan when we leave.

Collectors
Jeff and I like to collect things. They're mostly either books, movies, or Star Wars stuff.
The other night we moved our DVD shelves into our room where the TV is. Helps us conserve heat in the rest of the house. Here are our DVDs lined up on our bed.

Just for fun
I . . . think . . . this is all of them. Not sure; it's quite possible there are more spread about the house.
You can see the very first one there, near the front. It's pink and has a quill and ink jar on it. Ah, the one that started the madness :)
I need to work out the percentages, but I'm fairly sure I have about 0.05% of them backed up. I'm going to be working on that for a looooong time.

Is anyone else as sick of the politicians as I am?
I don't know how many people catch Beck's show every day - thanks to dad for pointing us to glennbeckclips.com! - but here's a little clip from yesterday's show that I really enjoyed. I know, it's a little long, but Glenn really has some good points.
I'm especially sick of the name calling. I'm tired of being called names because you disagree with the people trying to destroy the constitution. I'm tired of people insisting on "tolerance" and then not being tolerant of your view point. I'm sick of even the little things like the local newspaper and how, as soon as you voice a dissenting vote on anything this administration is doing, all the crazies in the town come crawling out to tear you apart, but can't even argue with the facts.
People locally have been complaining about statements that our freedom of speech (including religion) is under attack. They claim it's not. How can you seriously watch what's going on in the world and disagree? Oh, it must be because you're free to speak out IF YOU WORSHIP OBAMA and his lackeys. Otherwise, don't you dare speak out.
Anyway, good clip! Go watch it!

Winterizing
Last week I started thinking about how to save on heat this year (thank heaven, because, whaddaya know, it's REALLY COLD now).
Being poor college students living in a mobile home, we don't have a lot to spend on the heat bill, so we don't have a lot to spend on heat saving.
We decided to give wrapping the windows a go this year, though we couldn't bring ourselves to buy the expensive kits, and even just plastic that is big enough for our windows is really expensive. So we decided to use emergency blankets. They're cheap, designed to keep heat in, and easy to cut.
Here's the window in the hall. This is the only one we've wrapped so far, just to see how it worked out.
These also still let light in during the day. You still get the "trashy mobile home" look, but if they can keep heat in, I'll go with it. Though, their ability to keep heat in is still yet to be proven.
Here it is showing you can still see outside.
The other thing losing our heat is the doors. They're all built really high off the floor. The front door is especially bad in this area. We'd bought one draft snake from Walmart ages ago, so I used that one on the front door. I didn't want to spend more money on these, so I made one from left over quillow material.
Here's the cats' room.
They don't spend a lot of time in there, and the window is always cracked because, well, cats stink. Their door lets in a lot of cold. So I made this draft snake especially for their door so that it can be closed without having to move it. I hate that about the store bought ones. They don't seem to fit very well.
We bought some rice in a case lot sale forever ago that we thought was white rice (because we figure if there's an apocalypse, we'll be saved by bags of rice, or something), but it turned out to be some kind of nasty flavory rice. So I used that in these draft snakes. That works better than store bought draft snakes anyway. Those just have sparse amounts of those plastic bead things in them.
So this is really just a wordy way of saying I'M COLD and I'm trying to do something about it. Short of insulating every single outer wall on this junk heap, there's not much more I can do. Except win the lottery and move somewhere else.

Too Controversial for Golfers?
Especially with the season winding down, I have a lot of free time at work. Usually I take a book and sit at one of the two booths we have.
When I was taking "Common Sense" to work, hardly anyone noticed. Today I took "Arguing with Idiots", and I got all kinds of questions about it. Most people just wanted to know if I liked it, or if I "bought into" Glenn Beck.
One guy even made a point of coming back to the shop about an hour later to tell me that he's disappointed in Glenn. "He's LDS, and he violates all kinds of rules and regulations."
Maybe this is the wrong way to look at it, but my stance is sort of this :
I don't really listen to Glenn for his religious views. I listen because I agree on his politics. Yes, it IS nice to know that he's seeing the big picture, and has the same ideas on religion that I do.
But does that mean I agree with everything he does or says? No. Should I be the one to judge him for that? I don't really feel that's my place. Like I say, I use him for political views.
Would that guy's opinion have changed if he were, I don't know, Catholic?
Anyway. Still really enjoying this book. Jeff came to see me at work after school and read the first two chapters. He kept laughing and laughing. It's really a good read, and SO TRUE!
